Butterflug

By Timothy Bovee

Born 1946

How lovely the words that end in -ug,
Like sniffing the breeze with nose that is pug
While walking the park, a leisurely slug,
Who tumbles, pulled by a powerful tug
And falls in the arms of the mighty hug
Of the chrysalis home his nature has dug,
Transforms into a motionless grub
Sleeping as sound as a bug in a rug,
Then, grabbing a foaming genetic mug,
Drinks to the dregs the magical drug,
Happily cries a contented "Ugh!",
Changes into a butterflug
And into the sky
How lovely you fly
