The weed

By Abigail M. Wright

21st Century

I am the weed
that grows amongst the dandelions
my leaves wilt now-
the brilliance of this yellow
drown out my light.
I am the weed
that ENGULFS
your dandelions and drinks your water.
nuthin' grows here now.
I only want to be
your bed of roses.
Please, let me be
your bed of roses.
Don't let me prick your fingers,
you wouldn't want to bleed now.
