After the Storm

By Edward Butterfield

21st Century

Crying tears over the lost days of warm kisses and sensual caress
Remembering the days filled with unrest
Because you had gone away
Longing for your return I would spend countless hours beating my face

Years had gone by while the bags under my eyes reminded me of the time
Not realizing the love I felt was too strong or too wrong
Thinking because I had survived the tirade of your physical abuse
That I was still winning since the good Lord never gave you too much to bear

Today somebody new kissed me
And all the pain and drain of my cycle with you
Rushed through me and sent a negative surge to my lips
He grabbed me with the assurance that he would never

Every now and again I feel myself pulling back
Nervous about letting my guard down
The anger lines on my forehead give me away
His gentle kiss smoothes them out as I relax in his arms

Pray for me
